Giovanni's 4 for $40 Highway 40 Deal (12/7 - 1/7)

You know the Highway re-opening is a big deal when players like Mike Shannon's and Tony's get in on the action with I-64 deals and specials, but there's one more restaurant in town offering a great dinner deal in honor of the new highway. Giovanni's on the Hill has also decided that this event is momentous enough to merit a dinner special.

Beginning December 7th and running through January 7th, when you dine at Giovanni's you have the option of partaking in a four course prix-fixe meal PLUS a bottle of wine (to share between you and your date or companion) for $40 per person.

Each diner will receive an appetizer, salad, your choice of entree from four offered selections, and a cannoli for dessert. And on top of all that, you'll also receive a bottle of wine to accompany the meal. Entree options include a Grilled Salmon, Chicken Piemontese, Veal alla Toscana and Pappardelle alla Bella Oprah (Wide, flat noodles with fresh tomato, basil pesto, and imported ricotta cheese).

This offer is good every day except New Year's Eve and on Sundays, when the restaurant is closed. Come on, you've endured the pain of waiting the last couple of years for the Highway to re-open, don't miss out on the rewards!

Mike Shannon's 4 for $40 (12/7 - 1/15)

While I alluded to Mike Shannon's new 4 for $40 for the next 40 days (until January 15th if you don't feel like doing the math) in my Highway 40 Specials Post, this deal really deserves an extra nod and a few more details since it will span the course of an entire month rather than just a few days. Plus, they have a few other specials going on that, while still pricey (Mike Shannon deals always are), definitely deserve a mention.

First, if you are looking for a Downtown lunch time splurge, Mike Shannon's should be your destination of choice. During the month of December, they are offering a 1/2 pound of lobster meat, prepared newburg style, plus a baked jumbo lump crab cake AND a house salad for only $15. And if that's not enough, you can top off the meal with their December Lunch Time Wine Special: Glasses of either their Mike Shannon Cabernet by Trinchero or their Shannon Ridge Chardonnay for $5.

If you can't make it in for lunch, then definitely make it in for their 4 for $40 - good every day for the next forty days except New Years Eve when they have a special 3 Course menu available for $65.

Want to see the full 4 for $40? Check it out after the jump!

Highway 40 Re-Opening Specials

If you had overheard DJGel talking about the Grand Re-Opening of Highway 40 this past week, you would probably think the Cardinals had won the World Series again. Seriously, he's been that excited and has literally been counting down the days like a kid at Christmas time.

Not that I blame him - this is a huge, long anticipated moment for St. Louis, and it means he gets to sleep an extra twenty to thirty minutes more each morning (and since he often wakes me, this means I get to sleep an extra twenty to thirty minutes as well!).

He's not the only one celebrating though. Plenty of restaurants are pretty psyched for this occasion - the Fountain on Locust celebrated on Sunday with plenty of 40¢ menu items and the Dogtown community threw a huge party in its honor -- But there are plenty more restaurants jumping on the bandwagon with their own I-64/Highway 40 deals and specials.

Check them out after the jump!

The Boathouse - The Boathouse is offering 40% off food purchases all day on Monday, December 7th with this coupon.

Boogaloo - I received an email from Boogaloo containing a coupon for a free Cold AB Product or Free glass of house red or white wine in honor of I-64's re-opening. The coupon has a validation code so I don't want to post it here, but they also indicate that the Special is good Monday, December 7, 2009 - through Sunday, December 13, 2009 and "you must tell the bartender you received this email" -- so try telling the bartender you want that free beer promised in their email/newsletter and see what happens (no promises though)! They'll also be having a few other specials going on in celebration of the highway's re-opening as well so might as well stop in and give it a try.

Eclipse Lounge - Eclipse, located at the Moonrise Hotel will be having a Highway 40 Re-Opening Happy Hour on Monday, December 7 from 6 - 9 pm. Stop by for $5 specialty drinks and $6 - $8 appetizers (...pretty expensive for a "special," no?)

Mike Shannon's - Mike Shannon's is celebrating the re-opening of Highway 40 with a four course menu for $40 - available for the first 40 days of the Highway's re-opening (until January 15th). The full menu can be viewed here.

Nadoz Cafe - Nadoz Cafe will be offering Re-opening Specials from Monday through Thursday - including 40¢ small coffees, 64¢ medium coffees, $1.64 fruit bars, and $1.40 cups of soup!

Park Avenue Coffee - Park Avenue Coffee will be offering 64¢ baked goods all day Monday (including their gooey butter cake!) with the purchase of a drink.

Tony's - Beginning Monday, December 7 through Friday, December 11, Tony's will be offering a special Highway Forty four course meal for $64 and a three course meal for $40. According to George Mahe of Feast, the entree for the four-course dinner will feature a parmesan encrusted lamb chop with a herbed risotto as its main entree while the three-course dinner includes a green peppercorn marinated beef tenderloin as its entree. Call (314) 231-7007 for reservations.

Local Harvest's $25 4 Course Weekend Dinners

Local Harvest really knows how to offer good deals, and their newest offering is right up there with some of the best prix-fixe deals in St. Louis.

Every Friday and Saturday, they will be offering a four-course meal with their usual focus on fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients for only $25 per person
. Wine pairings will also be available to select from, starting at just $10.

What can you expect from these dinners? Well, the menu changes nightly but judging from their first dinner, you can expect some adventurous dishes like turnip cakes with a wasabi creme and tuscan beans with salsiccia, along with a braised beef entree served over polenta and a pie from St. Louis favorite Sugaree Bakery for dessert.

And if you've ever wondered how truly "local," Local Harvest is, here are some refreshing stats: Since opening in June, 2007, Local Harvest has paid $252,394 to local farmers and ranchers, $231,476 to local food and non-food artisans, and has contributed $14,459 in donations to area schools, community centers and non-profits. In fact, for every dollar you spend at Local Harvest, 80¢ of it stays within the community. That's pretty impressive and gives new meaning to the idea of a "Local Restaurant."

As a Mark you Calendar Event (I'll remind you as the day approaches) - Local Harvest's next big community endeavor will take place on December 14th when they will be hosting a "Pay What You Can" Lunch. They'll be offering one lunch item plus a drink, and you pay only what you can. This is a great opportunity for those of you who cannot normally afford to dine out, to treat yourself to something special.

Toys for Tots "Free Food" Promotion

While this deal has been going on for a few weeks now, I just wanted to remind readers that many restaurants in St. Louis are participating in a generous Toys for Tots campaign right as this very moment. With Christmas approaching in only a few short weeks, now is the time to ramp up the participation and get to a drop off spot with a toy in hand.

Obviously, helping the Marine Corps collect Christmas gifts to brighten up the lives of needy children in St. Louis should be enough to get each of us up off our butts and to a drop off spot, but the holidays are a busy, bustling time of year, and it can be easy to get caught up in all the commotion.

To get your attention and give everyone a little incentive to find some time, restaurants around St. Louis, St. Louis County and St. Charles are offering FREE food when you bring in a new, unwrapped toy through December 14th.

Each participating restaurant will offer a gift certificate for either $5 off, a FREE Kids Meal, a FREE dessert or a FREE appetizer. There are tons of restaurants to choose from, including Tuckers, Urban Eats, Onesto, Mike Shannon's, Iron Barley, and BC's Kitchen. Whether you're looking for a diner, pizza parlor, pub or fancy eating establishment, you'll probably find one on the list of participating restaurants.

There are some restrictions on the Gift Certificates: The coupon is good only through December 31st. Gift certificates cannot be used with any other offer, only one coupon per table, per visit is allowed, and sales must exceed $25. But keep in mind, this is for a good cause, and it's just an added bonus to get a little something back in return.

There will also be a Toys for Tots Christmas Party on December 21st. Check out details after the jump!

December 21st marks the date of the first annual Toys for Tots Christmas Party benefiting the Toys for Tots Foundation and the USO. Come join the US Marines of St. Louis at Crestwood Court from 6 - 9 pm for pictures with Santa and the Marines, music and always my favorite - food tasting from approximately fifteen restaurants, including Amici's, Iron Barley, Llywelyn's, and Onesto's (full list of participating restaurants can be viewed here). Tickets are $15 per adult and can be purchased in advance here. Children under 12 are free.
